Why change the oil filter?

Author:

The function of filter is to remove the greatest amount of contaminants or dirt while offering the least resistance to flow. An oil filter filtrates metal particles, sludge and carbon. An oil filter is designed for specific flow rate measured in volume per hour. In due time oil filters of an engine becomes dirty. When the filter media becomes saturated with contaminants or dirt the flow rate of oil reduces which also affects oil pressure. To maintain the required flow rate of the oil in an engine, the oil filter should be replaced in every oil change.
