The First 50 Run Hour Oil Change

Author:

Your brand new engine or an engine that came out from a major overhaul will require an oil change after its first 50 run hours. This is called an engine break-in. An engine break-in is to flush out small particles of metals called “swarf” rubbed off the cylinder walls and pistons. After some period the piston rings will properly seat against the cylinder wall. Metal swarfs are abrasive materials. If they were left in the engine longer they will eventually get mixed in the oil and causes piston and cylinder wear. This would also void the engine warranty if an owner of a brand new or a major overhauled generator set did not have his machine serviced for an oil change after its first 50 run hour.
