Design Feature: Control Panel Mount
The control panel of Powercity generator sets conform with EGSA 101S Standards paragraph 7.2.1 which specifies that instrumentation must be isolated from engine generator set vibration. The control panel, circuit breaker, and output terminal are separately mounted away from the alternator. If these parts are fixed on the alternator they will suffer from stress caused by the vibration of the alternator during its operation.
An output terminal for connecting feeders is provided. This eliminates connecting feeders directly to the circuit breaker. If feeders are to be connected to the circuit breaker frequent disconnect and reconnect will damage the circuit breaker terminals.
Location of control panel in Powercity generator sets: (a) control panel and circuit breaker (b) output terminal box, (c) alternator
Other brands directly mount their control panel to the alternator. This does not isolate the control panel from vibration produced by the alternator. In the long run control wires inside the control panel and the feeder cable connected to its circuit breaker will eventually lose their connections which could lead to failure, fire, or electrical shock.
An example of a generator set that is not in conformity with EGSA 101S Standards.
